Piper: The Real Charmed Empath?

Happy Friday, Fanaticals! Today we are going to look at the sister who was suddenly thrown from being the middle child into being the eldest and the one everyone looked to.

Piper had the biggest emotional rollercoaster out of any character on this show. From losing the sister she was closest with, to going back and forth on being allowed to or not allowed to marry than she loved, to discovering and having to accept a whole new half-sister. Out of all of that, I think everyone can agree they probably cried the hardest when Piper completely lost herself in her grief in frount of Prue’s nameplate and changed from a Wendigo back into herself.

While I only recently lost a family member that was practically my sibling, I never really knew how it could feel. However, Piper’s grief came across the screen so powerfully, we all felt it. Grief came and went throughout the series, but Piper’s seemed to come across much stronger than others. Which is what brings us this question: was Piper really the empath of the Charmed Ones?

Phoebe may have been the one in the end where we see the manifestation of empath powers, such as when she told her one boyfriend “I love you too” because she read his emotions but, Piper was the one who’s emotions we truly felt. Some will say it was just good acting but honestly, I think the truth is that Piper was a NATURAL empath. During the episode where they were all turned into Greek Goddesses, Piper was turned into Gaea who is the Goddess of Earth aka Mother Nature which I think speaks a lot.

Now, I have seen a couple threads online that have to do with the girls being selfish, or potentially going bad. But what stuck out to me was when someone would call Piper selfish. However, the theory behind a few of these comments is that it was their POWERS that made them become selfish. In Season 2, Dr. Williamson actually injected himself with their blood and their powers transferred to him where he then goes around taking organs from criminals and giving them to patients on the transplant list. This was a really good example of the possibilities of the girls having their powers but doing good in bad ways; something that you see start to come out more and more as the series went on.

But where it comes that Piper is the selfish one, it gets pointed out that she was really the one who sacrificed the most out of all the sisters. She loses her mother, a fiancé, a sister, a boyfriend at least once, gains scar tissue that makes pregnancy difficult, and also ups the cost of her living at home and business both A LOT; of course there would be multiple times that she would be willing to give up her powers or say screw the personal gain rule! In the end, she even lost her husband until everything was said and done. So, is that really being selfish or is that being tired of being saddled with a burden that she didn’t want nor ask for?

Was it selfish of her to go through the Book and want to destroy as much evil as possible when Prue died so that she could be done with being a Charmed One? No, that was how she handled her grief. She was still in the Anger stage and I honestly disagreed soooo much with Phoebe and Leo when they tried to handle her grief themselves and force her into Acceptance.

What do you think? Was Piper the real Charmed empath, or was she the most selfish of them all? Or was she valid in just wanting to be done? Come tell us what you think! Tomorrow we will take a dive into the original youngest, Pheobe. Until then, keep on theorizing, Fanaticals!
