Muriel & Eustace: Puppets or People?

Hello, Fanaticals! I apologize for today being a bit shorter than normal, as I have been down for the count and sick with strep throat for the last three weeks. Today we will be diving into an eerie but short theory. While not entire dark, it definitely borders on the gray side as we discuss some underlying themes with it. For today's theory, we will go back to the Season 1 finale and a villain that we mentioned yesterday: Fusilli.

Muriel and Eustace Never Became Human Again

If you will recall the Season 1 finale, The Great Fusilli shows up and puts on a puppet show. During this time, he makes Eustace and Muriel his victims and they become puppets themselves, like all his victims. Despite Courage's best efforts, come the end of the episode, Muriel and Eustace are sat up in their chairs with strings still attached. Even though he was able to use Fusilli's magic against him, it didn't break the spell on his victims leaving everyone as puppets.

This brings about the theory that any episode after that, everything is done and controlled by either Courage, or maybe even the villains. This is almost a reverse theory of previous ones; where Muriel cannot let go of a missing son and uses Courage as a replacement, Courage in turn cannot let go of them and so is "pulling their strings" from Season 2 onward.

While it's a bit of a twisted theory, there is definitely some logic behind it. We talked about how everyone grieves differently, which means that if we look at Muriel using Courage to replace her grief over a lost child then it would make sense if Courage was now a puppet master behind their cursed bodies as he would need to grieve them for the spell not being broken.

What do you think about this theory? Come join our community and talk about it with us! Join me tomorrow for the last day of Courage week, as we take a look at our darkest theory yet about the show. Until then, keep on theorizing!
