Futurama: Lovable Old Fry

Hello, Fanaticals! Today we are going to take a look into our favourite main characters from the future! After a week of deep darkness, let's head into a week of futuristic theories, and even some discrepancies along the way!

"I Am My Own Grandpa."

When I was in high school, my science teacher played us a song one day. It was a song of complete chaos that described how a man somehow was his own grandfather. However, Futurama definitely put a whole new meaning to the song when the crew traveled back in time to 1957 and landed in Roswell, New Mexico.

This chaotic but hilarious episode not only gave a whole new meaning to this song, but also broke open some of the best conspiracy theories of the U.S. It starts with the fact that Bender happens to be the UFO, and Zoidberg the mysterious alien, that sparked the old theories surrounding Roswell and the aliens.

The entire situation only gets funnier as Fry is constantly trying to prevent his grandfather from dying, only to accidentally get him killed. As we all know, Fry is his aun kind of special. Somehow, his math adds up to mean that his grandmother is, in fact, NOT his grandmother. This leads to him sleeping with her and conceiving his father.

In the song " I Am My Own Grandpa" (ironically sung by Willie Nelson), the guy who is singing the song becomes his own grandfather by a lot of confusing marriages and sub-sequential births, whereas here fry did it by time-travel and... Well, being the Fry we all know and love.

The first time I saw this episode, I could not stop laughing because when Farnsworth stated that Fry had effectively became his own grandfather, I was immediately transported back to when I first heard it. The creators put a whole new meaning to that song, and it was definitely worth the twisted comedic relief that it brought to the show. Especially as they seem to never let him forget about the incident as it comes up multiple times later on down the road.

Fry Wins by Default?

This was a crazy theory thought by my household. in Season 7, Episode 10, the opening scene is the Clippie Awards. These awards are a comedic way to recognize delivery boys, that somehow Fry, as an adult, is nominated for also.

While watching it one day, my other half randomly popped off with a theory that had me almost falling off the bed in laughter. I was originally laughing because Fry won the award literally by default, as just scant seconds before they had been honouring delivery boys who had lost their lives on the job; funny enough, all three that were honoured had been nominated alongside Fry.

Suddenly, I hear from my left, "Do you think he killed them to win? Or maybe BENDER did because he knew Fry wasn't going to win otherwise??" I honestly could not stop laughing because for about ten minutes, as all I could see was Bender setting them up to die just so fry could actually win something and would win by default for literally being the only one alive!

Fry is Bender's special bean, and we all know he would do just about anything for him; and Fry has a really bad streak of bad luck, even though he fits in so much better in the year 3000. Is it really far-fetched to think that someone might have arranged his competition to be eliminated so that he could actually say he won something?

We can all agree that Fry is one of the most lovable characters of Futurama, who is also probably one of the most innocent as well. However, chaos definitely seems to follow him. What do you think? Could someone have set it up so he finally won something? Maybe it wasn't Bender, but Leela? Come join our community and swap your thoughts! Join me tomorrow, as we take apart the most dysfunctional family of the series. Until then, keep on theorizing, Fanaticals!
