Charmed: Prue's Potential

Happy Wednesday, Fanaticals! I want to take a dig at each Charmed sister and some individual theories about them this week, so today we are going to start, of course, with the eldest: Prudence, aka Prue. Now, I want to remind you all that this blog contains spoilers throughout it, and this specific post even more so as we look specifically at one character.

Often, when a character dies off from a show and another replaces them, especially in a capacity where there are siblings, everyone has theories about how the storyline would have gone if they hadn't been killed off. At the end of Season 3, we were left with a massive cliff hanger and the question of which sister was dead: Prue or Piper?

When Season 4 came back, we discover it was Prue and that her character was basically replaced when they discover they have a half-sister in Paige. Many people seem to completely forget about Prue come somewhere in Season 5, but she's always been a part of the series and we can't forget that. The biggest question is, though, what would have become of Prue if she had lived?

Reddit has become an interesting source over the years, and fan theories are no exception to this! One fan theory to start with in regard to Prue is that the Prue that we see die at the end of Season 3 is not the real Prue. In Season 1, Prue clones herself which Piper hands them each different colour sweaters to differentiate who is who: the sweet and innocent one in pink, the more rough around the edges one in blue, and the original in black. When Andy comes to tell the other two that he has Prue's body on a slab, they consistently ask him what colour her sweater was.

However, what has been picked up by fans is that in one scene when the blue and black sweater Prues are with each other, they are seen to be fixing their clothes after disappearing offscreen for a moment. This theory then follows up that the original Prue and the rougher Prue switched clothes and that it was actually the original Prue that died in the demonic confrontation, not a clone. The theory states that both clones were created with all of her memories and her personality, although certain parts of her personality shined through more than others which is why the pink sweater seemed so sweet and innocent-like.

They use this theory as an explanation as to why Prue suddenly up and quit Bucklands and became a photographer. The Prue in the blue sweater seemed to be more laid back in how she acted, and after this incident we see Prue slowly become more laid back and more likely to follow her dreams. Now, this theory CAN be argued against because Andy had given tickets to the blue sweater Prue, and those tickets were in the sweater of the Prue on the morgue slab. However, if they switched sweaters and the one had put the tickets in her sweater pocket then whichever body of Prue wound up in the morgue would have the tickets.

Another theory comes with Piper's grief during Season 4, when she tries to summon Prue's spirit but instead Penny and Patty's spirits appear. While this is partly due to Shannon's not coming back to the series, however the theory behind why Prue didn't show up is that Penny and Patty were still needed to help guide the girls, versus where Prue found her peace when she died; therefore, her spirit would not linger. However, as Piper was in the deepest parts of her grief, it is a theory that Patty and Penny did what they could to avoid telling Piper that Prue was happy and had moved on in the afterlife which is one reason why suddenly Paige was found; so it's also a theory that it wasn't so much magic finding Paige, but Patty and Penny guiding them to her so that Piper would be able to handle her grief for Prue easier and not constantly try to call her back from a place that she can't come back from.

The last theory I want to bring up that I found is that while Prue's death was obviously not a part of the original plan for the series, it was absolutely needed. The first three seasons were a bit repetitive in the way that Prue was always the strongest, and the other two and was always having to rescue them in some way making everything really imbalanced in power. There is a bit of a dual theory, one if that if Prue had lived the series would not have lasted 8 seasons; I agree with this. The show would not lasted as long, and I honestly don't think even Magic School would have existed either. The other side of this theory is that Prue NEEDED to die in order for the Power to balance out and Piper especially to grow.

What do you think? Are there any other Prue theories out there that you think are potentially true? Come join our community and tell us your thoughts! Tune in tomorrow as we pull a part Prue's "replacement". Until then, keep on theorizing, Fanaticals!
