The Rise of Red: History Changes?

Happy Wednesday, Fanaticals! Today we are going to take a look into what the implications of The Rise of Red bring into the realm of The Descendants. While this fourth installment brought in an interesting side to the whole collective, it also brings up more questions than we have answers to.

Starting with this one: how old IS everyone exactly? Also, when did Belle and the Beast "create" Auradon? While the original trilogy makes it obvious that it is only a generation (two at most, if you include Dowager Queen Leah, Aurora's mother) that run around Aruadon, you have to ask yourself exactly how old IS everyone then?

Queen Leah and that kingdom were in a hundred-year sleep, which could attest to why we don't obviously see Aurora in Merlin Academy; but it doesn't explain how we see Jasmine, Aladdin, Cinderella and her Prince, even Hades and Maleficent as literal teens and pre-teens in The Rise of Red. Considering the fact that Maleficent was the one to place them under that curse, it seems odd to see her the way we do as a teen/pre-teen in this newest installment.

So what exactly are the implications of this installment and the following installments going to be? For those of you who might be wondering how I am sure there will be a fifth one, you have to go back to the first two. At the end of each Mal and Uma both are seen and heard to say, "You didn't think this was the end of the story, did you?" Which then followed with the second and third movies shortly after. The Rise of Red ends the same way, with Uma saying that exact line.

There's going to be a lot that will be questioned, especially as those of us who Harry Potter fans are also know that it is dangerous to meddle with time; despite the fact that many do not like to consider Cursed Child canon, it does show what can happen when you change history. The 2004 movie starring Ashton Kutcher, The Butterfly Effect, also is a good show at what can happen when you mess with time as one of the alternate realities that he lived included him being imprisoned.

With that knowledge, we have to wonder what could come of this little trip to make sure that Red's mother never turned into the dangerous and cruel Queen of Hearts that she was. Small changes in time could have the biggest ripples in time. Now, while I also agree with Captain Mercer that chewing glass would be more appealing than discussing time-travel and its consequences, it's something to seriously consider for this series.

Now that they have time-traveled once, are they going to have to do it again? While the remaining three of the original four have stated that it would be difficult for them to return to do more of the series without Cameron, we have to consider what other avenues they would take, as the story is obviously not over. The only original cast member that seems to be confirmed in coming back would be Chyna as Uma is now principal, unless they keep her appearances to a minimum or not at all which... That would seem a bit odd.

With the removal of the barrier between Auradon and the Isle and discovering that Red's mother put up a barrier between Wonderland and Auradon it makes you wonder what other lands that may be out there could be blocked off for one reason or another. I know I've read a couple fanfics that involve Jack Frost amongst others, but we just don't yet know.

The Rise of Red bringing in the time travel aspect and seeing everyone at such young ages makes you think that the end of Beast's curse, the uniting and creation of Auradon, and the birth of the Descendants really weren't that far off from Rise of Red, maybe only about ten years at most. No one has really settled into their fairytales yet, and it also begs the question with Hades' presence, as in the third installment he makes it known quite clear many times that he is a God, not a Villain.

While The Rise of Red was definitely a descent continuation, a lot of fans have a lot of questions now that may or may not ever get answered. Hopefully the next installment comes quickly and answers a bit of not only the timeline overall but also the repercussions of the girls' adventure into the past.
