Hello Fanaticals! This week we are going to be diving into our first week of dark theories; however, today we are sticking with the very few light theories that I have found and they are specified to one person in the show: Bob Belcher, owner of Bob’s Burgers and one of my fave characters of the whole show.
Bob is such a unique character, and as the series is primarily about the restaurant, it’s not unusual that he is the main player in the series. While we follow the kids on their own adventures, Bob is still front and center. So today, we are going to dive into peeling back the layers that are Bob. Let’s dive in and take a look at the main player of the show!
Bob Probably is the Only Sober Adult in Town
There is so much evidence to back this theory! While not many of the other residences ACT like they are drunk until they over drink, there is some proof that they do drink A LOT.
It’s very rare that you see Linda, Teddy, or even the Fischoeders without a drink in their hands but yet it is very rare you ever see any of them being a sloppy-type drunk until it’s obvious that they (mainly Linda) are DRUNK. On the flip side, you also very rarely see Bob WITH a drink; when you do, it get very drunk, VERY fast which tells us that he really doesn't drink a lot.
This, alone, makes you wonder if everyone else is in a constant state of having alcohol in their system. If that is true, it would mean that Bob is the only sober adult in town. The only other exception would be Mr. Frond, the proof in that comes from the one dinner that he spent at the Belcher’s when he gave Gale the handmade doll on their second date where he admits that he doesn’t ever drink, that and he very clearly is never invited to Mar-Tuesdays with the other teachers.
Bob is Bisexual or Pansexual
While Bob is married to Linda, we all know that does not indicate that he is absolutely straight. There is also a myriad of instances where it is quite obvious that he either questions his own sexuality, or it seems more obvious that he isn’t completely straight as he seems to randomly subtly hit on just about everyone.
The most prominent example is the Thanksgiving episode when Bob is sleepwalking and he goes back to the store to see the same guy at the deli. They have their own little back and forth, ending when Bob finally states he is “mostly straight” before he corrects himself to say that he is straight; yet as he turns to leave, he says “Who am I kidding, you’re way out of my league!” However, he also says that he will call the guy in an extremely flustered tone as the man states he is “willing to go the distance” with him right then and there and hook up.
Honestly, this is one of the more entertaining interactions that brings his sexuality into question. The other real prominent examples are whenever Marshmallow gets brought up in conversation. In an episode when Linda is speaking about Marshmallow, he states, “All I know about Marshmallow is that she comes and goes as she pleases, she answers to no one, and she is truly free.” He says this in a very admiration tone.
While he could have been admiration because Marshmallow truly is her own special type of soul, there is also the episode when Linda believes that she is psychic as evidence. She states that the next person to walk in the door would be “very handsome”, just before Marshmallow walks in. When Linda starts to get upset that she was wrong, Bob states, “She’s not handsome, she’s beautiful.” Marshmallow then says her trademark “Bluuuuush.”
While this can just be admiration of a very strong person, as there is a heavy emphasis that Marshmallow is a Male to Female Transition, it can also be questioned if he has a crush on her. Honestly, though, who wouldn’t love Marshmallow?
On a slightly distant side note, we also look to Teddy. While he has a tendency to HEAVILY hit on Linda, there have also been a few exchanges with him and Bob as well that could pose the question if they are attracted to each other as well. However, coming from Teddy it could be an awkward form of jealousy, and Bob's reactions to Teddy in return are an awkward reaction to Teddy always so blatantly hitting on Linda, even in frount of Bob himself.
It can be argued that none of this is concrete proof of Bob’s sexuality, it is still a very heavy implication that he is not straight.
Some crazy things go on in Seymour’s Bay, and at Wonder Wharf, you have to admit that the thought of most the adults being drunk more often than sober does explain why so much goes on; while Bob might question at times if he is fully straight makes sense to some of the crazy stuff that goes on.
Join me tomorrow as we take our first look at some darker fan theories. Don’t forget to join out community and talk with others about what you think about these theories! Until tomorrow, keep on theorizing, Fanaticals!

That thanksgiving episode is my favorite 1 out of all of them
